1565 Lappula squarrosa (Retz.) Dum.

Syn.: L. myosotis Moench

This species originates from the steppes of SE. Europe and W. Siberia. It has now spread as a weed over large areas of the northern hemisphere and also to S. Africa. Thus, its present distribution is circumpolar (Hultén, Circumpol. II, p. 226 and map 217). In S. Europe subsp. heteracantha (Ledeb.) Chater is distinguished. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 365.
