Syn.: Anemone hepatica L., Hepatica triloba Gilib.

This species s. str. (var. nobilis) is restricted to Europe. The var. asiatica (Nakai) Hara in Korea and var. japonica (Nakai) Ohwi in Japan as well as the closely related N. American species H. acutiloba (Laws.) DC. and H. americana (DC.) Ker-Gawl. are also mapped. H. nobilis and the American species together show an amphi-atlantic distribution (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 262 and map 243). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 160.
