This polymorphic species is here represented by subsp. umbellata in Eurasia and subsp. occidentalis (Rydb.) Hult., subsp. cisatlantica (Blake) Hult. and subsp. acuta (Rydb.) Hult. in N. America. Totally the species belongs to the discontinuous circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 371 and map 150). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 323.
