This species was originally restricted mainly to E. Europe and W. Asia. It has been introduced as a weed into N. Europe and Great Britain (casually) as well as into SW. Africa, N. America (incomplete mapping) and New Zealand. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 282.
