1015 Saxifraga nivalis L.

This widespread, mainly arctic-montane species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 46 and map 37). The var. tenuis Wahlenb., restricted mainly to the alpine and arctic areas, is not mapped separately. However, its occurrence is shown on a previous map by Hultén (l. cit.). The closely related S. rhomboidea Greene in western N. America and S. gaspensis Fem. on Gaspe Peninsula are also mapped. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 200.
