This mainly European species is closely related to D. filix-mas (L.) Schott (no. 64) and earlier included in this species. Closely related taxa are reported from S. and SE. Asia and C. and S. America (world map of D. wallichiana (Spreng.) Hyl. (syn.: D. paleacea Hand.-Mzt.) in Meusel et al. 1965, p. 17). The main lines of distribution are taken from H. Piekos-Mirkowa in Fragm. Flor.
