This European species belongs to the R. tomentosa group (Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 30). It is characterized as a mountain plant by Hegi IV2, p. 1012. The closely related R. scabriuscula Sm. and R. venusta Scheutz are included on this map. The total limit of the occurrence of these species is tentatively drawn.
