This boreal-montane species has a disjunct distribution in Europe and partly in Asia and N. America. The closely related, arctic-boreal C. ambtyorhynca V. Krecz. in Siberia, northern N. America, on Greenland and Spitzbergen is also mapped. These species together have a circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 68 and map 59). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 68.
