440 Carex lachenalii Schkuhr

This mainly arctic-montane species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 50, 242 and map 44). The population in Portugal and S. Spain has been distinguished as C. furva Webb. This taxon is, however, included in C. tachenatii in Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 301. Furthermore, the species occurs as a native plant in New Zealand and is therfore a bipolar species (Du Rietz in Acta phyt. Suec. 13/1940, p. 215 f.).
