501 Carex pallescens L.

This boreal, partly montane species occurs in most of Europe and adjacent parts of Asia and in eastern N. America. The American population is distinguished as var. neogaea Fem. The distribution in Asia is still insufficiently known. It is regarded as an adventive on lceland. The species s. lat. belongs to the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 70 and map 51).
