This mainly arctic species is sometimes considered as a lower taxon of D. hirta L. For its rather complicated taxonomy, see Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 30, and literature quoted there. The var. ladogensis H. Lindb. in SE. Fennoscandia is mapped separately. The species belongs to the circumpolar plants (1. cit. and map 21).
