Sonchus asper
1888 Sonchus asper (L.) Hill
This species occurs as a more or less indigenous plant in most of Europe and adjacent parts of Africa and Asia. In the southern part of the range subsp. glaucescens (Jord.) Ball is distinguished. The species has spread with farming and horticulture over large areas of Europe, C. and S. Africa, Asia, N. and S. America, Australia and New Zealand. Today the species has a circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 242 and map 234).
