This species occurs in parts of C. and E. Europe and Asia and also in N. America. It has been introduced into several places, probably more than the map indicates. It is reported among the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 276 and map 257). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 40.
