Syn.: C. paupercula Michx

This mainly boreal-montane taxon is here taken as a subspecies of the bipolar C. magellanica Lam. (cf. Du Rietz in Acta phyt. Suec. 13/1940, p. 216 and map Fig. 3). The subspecies occurring in the northern hemisphere may be considered as a circumpolar plant, although there seems to be a gap in E. Siberia (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 90 and map 81).
