1825 Artemisia campestris L.

This polymorphic species (excl. subsp. borealis, no. 1826) now occurs in mast of Europe and adjacent parts of Africa and Asia. It has been favoured by clearings of dry ground. It occurs also as a ruderal plant, for instance in N. Fennoscandia. For further subspecies see Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 186. Closely related taxa occur in Asia (A. marschalliana Spreng.) and N. America (A. canadensis Michx). These taxa form, together with A. campestris, a complex which has a circumpolar distribution.
