This arctic-montane species has a wide, disjunct distribution in Eurasia and N. America. Some of the populations outside Europe are taxonomically intricate (transitions to the circumpolar D. lactea Adams). The reports from literature are marked separately. The species belongs to the circumpolar plants. It is, however, also reported among the amphi-atlantic plants by Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 226 and map 207. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 185.
