Syn.: C. buxbaumii Wahlenb. var. macrostachya Hartm.

This species is restricted to C. and E. Europe and adjacent parts of Asia and occurs in an isolated locality in eastern N. America. Thus, it belongs to the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 132 and map 114). This species is probably overlooked. The main range, the hatched area on the map, is preliminary.
