This species is mainly restricted to Europe. It has occasionally spread within and outside the original range, for instance into the isolated localities in N. Fennoscandia and, further, into California, Mexico, S. America and New Zealand, possibly also N. China. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 297.
