This species originates from Europe and W. Asia and is widely spread as a weed, for instance to parts of Africa, Asia, N. and S. America, Australia and New Zealand. It is nowadays rarer than before, at least in Fennoscandia. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 177.
