This species occurs mainly in W. Europe and NW. Africa. It penetrates locally eastwards to Caucasus and adjacent parts of Asia. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 73. The population on the Azores in distinguished as var. myosuroides (Lowe) Boott. (Sjögren in Mem. Soc. Brot. 22/1973, p. 369).
