1275 Erodium cicutarium (L.) I..:Her.

This species is now widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 202f. reports three subspecies (still more lower taxa have been distinguished), for instance subsp. bipinnatum Tourlet along the W. European coasts. The species is considered as originating from the Mediterranean region. It has then (as subsp. cicutarium) spread over large parts of the world as a weed, for instance to C. and S. Africa, E. Asia (sparsely), N. and S. America, Australia etc. Nowadays it belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 220 and map 212). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 264.
