This species is mainly restricted to Europe. It has probably been introduced into N. America (certainly more occurrences than marked on the map) and into S. America, Australia and New Zealand. It is reported among the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 132 and map 113). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 40.
