1301 Tilia cordata Mill.

This species is restricted to Europe and adjacent parts of Asia. The hybrid with T. platyphyllos Scop. (no. 1300) is frequently cultivated (T. vulgaris Hayne), more so than T. cordata, also outside the natura! area of distribution. E of the range this species is replaced by T. sibirica Fisch. (syn.: T. cordata var. sibirica Maxim.), indicated by circles on the map. In E. Asia there are other closely related taxa, for instance, T. amurensis Rupr., T. taqueti C. K. Schn. and T. japonica (Miq.) Simonk. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 281.
