This polymorphic species occurs in Eurasia and N. America. However, the populations in N. America have been distinguished as S. latifolia W illd. Further, the closely related S. trifolia L., often regarded as a subspecies of S. sagittifolia, has a wide distribution in Asia. Its occurrence is tentatively mapped.
