Angelica archangelica subsp. archangelica
1422 Angelica archangelica L. subsp. archangelica
Syn.: A. a. subsp. norvegica (Rupr.) Nordh.
This subspecies and the Asiatic variety decurrens (Ledeb.) Weinert occur in Eurasia and Greenland. The taxonomic relations between these and other closely related taxa do not seem to be clear. Thus, the map is partly preliminary. As to the Icelandic population of A. archangelica, there are different opinions in the floras. It seems reasonable to approve A. Löve's opinion in the Iceland flora of 1945, p. 211, that subsp. archangelica is a more or less inland plant (introduced by the Norsemen?) and subsp. litoralis (Fr.) Thell. (no. 1423) on the whole follows the coast. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 317.
