This arctic-montane species includes here three taxa, viz. subsp. laxa in the C. and S. European mountains, subsp. flexuosa (Sm.) Hyl. in the Scandinavian mountains, Scotland and lceland, and subsp. fernaldiana (Nannf.) Hyl. in eastern N. America. Together these taxa have an amphi-atlantic distribution (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 66 and map 48). For further information about the Poa laxa group, see Nannfeldt in Symb. Bot. Ups. 1:5/1935.
