1720 Utricularia vulgaris L.

This species is widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. It is divided into two subspecies, viz. subsp. vulgaris in Eurasia and subsp. macrorhiza (Le Conte) Claus. in E. Asia and N. America with Mexico.Together they have a circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 130, 353 f. and map 122). Within the hatched area the distribution is uneven. The Japanese population is distinguished as a separate species, U. japonica Makino. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 417.
