201 Juncus stygius L.

This boreal-montane species s. lat. occurs in Eurasia and N. America. In E. Asia and N. America it is represented by subsp. americanus (Buch.) Hult. It is reported among the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 248 and map 230) but could just as well be considered a discontinuous circumpolar plant (1. cit.). However, it seems to be rare in E. Europe and Siberia (occurrences of relict character). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 84.
