This species occurs as a native and adventive plant in most of Europe (except S) and adjacent parts of Asia. It is mainly of southeastern origin. It has spread during the last few centuries westwards and northwards. Thus, it is not native in the British Isles and Fennoscandia. It has been introduced into N. America and New Zealand.
