Agrostis gigantea
313 Agrostis gigantea Roth
Syn.: A. stolonifera L. var. major (Gand.) Farw.
This species is closely related to A. stolonifera L. and sometimes included in this species, or confused with it. A. gigantea seems to occur in most of Europe and in large parts of Asia. The distribution in detail is most uncertain. This species has been introduced into N. America, where, however, the population in the eastern part is considered to be native (Fernald, Manual 1950, p. 161). It has also been spread by man to S. Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The present distribution is almost circumpolar (cf. Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 198, and in Fl. Alaska Neighbor. Terr., p. 100).
