This widespread species is registered among the amphi-atlantic plants by Hultén (Amphi-atl., p. 260 and map 242). However, scattered occurrences through Asia indicate an almost circumpolar distribution. It has been introduced into Australia. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 26.
