1104 Potentilla nivea L.

This arctic-montane species s. lat. is widely but partly disjunctly distributed in Eurasia and N. America. It includes the subsp. subquinata (Lange) Hult. with a disjunct occurrence (NE. Fennoscandia, Spitsbergen, Greenland and central N. America), being probably of hybridogene origin (Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 41). The species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 72 and map 63). Further, a few closely related taxa in the C. Asiatic and Chinese mountains are mapped together. For the arcticamphi-atlantic P. chamissonis Hult. see no. 1105.
