1742 Valeriana dioica L.

This disjunctly distributed species s. lat. is here divided into two subspecies, viz. subsp. dioica in Europe and C. Asia and subsp. sylvatica (Sol.) F. G. Mey. (syn.: V. septentrionalis Rydb.) in N. America. Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 54 distinguishes also subsp. simplicifolia (Rchb.) Nym. in the E. part of the European range. The species s. lat. belongs to the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 68 and map 50).
