The map shows the distribution of this polymorphic species and the N. American E. calva Torr. and E. smallii Britt. The closely related E. macrostachya Britt. and E. mamillata H. Lindh. are presented on map no. 398. E. palustris in Eurasia includes same lower taxa (Hultén, Atlas 1971, maps 299 and 299 A; Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 283), in Fl. URSS III/1935, p. 75-80 recorded as species. The E. palustris population in N. America, the range of which is tentatively marked on the map, seems to be more uniform. E. palustris belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 174 and map 165). Outside the map area it occurs in C. and S. Africa and S. America, with local taxa or as an introduced plant (Hultén, 1. cit.).
