This species is mainly restricted to C. and E. Europe. The distribution of the closely related P. visianii Degen & Lengyel in the Alps and P. longifolia (Bast.) Boreau in W. Europe is tentatively marked on the map. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 367.
