Silene involucrata
786 Silene involucrata (Cham. & Schl.) Bocq.
Syn.: S. furcata Rafin., Lychnis affinis J. Vahl ex Fr., Melandrium furcatum (Raf.) Hadac
This arctic, partly arctic-montane species is represented by subsp. involucrata with a circumpolar distribution and subsp. angustiflora (Rupr.) Hult. in N. Europe and W. and C. Siberia. Another subspecies, tenella (Tolm.) Bocq., also taken as a species, Silene taylorae (Robins.) Hult., occurs in E. Siberia and Alaska with adjacent areas (Hultén in Fl. Alaska Neighbor. Terr., p. 447). The closely related S. kingii (Wats.) Bocq. in the Rocky Mts. is also tentatively mapped here. S. involucrata s. lat. belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol Il, p. 313 and map 10).
