This widespread species occurs in N., C. and E. Europe and large parts of Asia. It has been introduced into New Zealand and possibly into England and eastern N. America. It is recorded among the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 140 and map 121). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 88.
