1869 Centaurea jacea L.

This variable species is as a native plant mainly restricted to Europe. It has been favoured by clearings. In the S. and SE. parts of the range subsp. angustifolia Gugl. is considered to dominate. The species has been introduced into N. and S. America. Thus, it has today an amphi-atlantic distribution.
