This boreal-montane species has a suboceanic distribution in N. Europe. Three closely related species are also mapped, tentatively, viz. P. sewerzowi Reg. and P. roseum (Ledeb.) Kunth in C. Asiatic mountains and P. stenophyllum Maxim. in E. Asia. Cf. also Meusel et al, 1965, map p. 99.
