This species occurs as a native and partly adventive plant in W., C. and S. Europe and adjacent parts of Africa and Asia. From there it has been spread by man to several parts of the world, for instance to C. Fennoscandia, C. and S. Africa, N. and S. America, Australia and New Zealand, Cf. world map in Meusel et al. 1965, p. 34.
