1868 Serratula tinctoria L.

This variable species is mainly restricted to Europe. In the southern part of the range subsp. macrocephala (Bertol.) Rouy also occurs. In the eastern part a type called S. inermis Gilib. Is recognized. The species has been introduced into at least one place in eastern N. America.
