This polymorphic species is native in Eurasia. It is considered to be introduced into N. America from Europe and naturalized over large areas. It has also been introduced into many other parts of the world. lncluding the N. American population, this species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 262 and map 254).
