This cultivated plant includes three main subspecies, sylvestris (L.) Janch. (probably wild in parts of the Eurasiatic range), rapa and oleifera DC. B. campestris L. is also included on this map. The species s. lat. is spread over large parts of the world, for instance S. Africa, N. and S. America, Australia and New Zealand. Nowadays the distribution is discontinuous circumpolar (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 389f. and map 228).
