1535 Cuscuta epithymum L.

This species (incl. var. trifolii [Bab.] Aresch.) probably originates from the Mediterranean region and the Orient. From there it has spread widely, for instance to Fennoscandia (19th century), C. and S. Africa, N. and S. America, China, Australia and New Zealand. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 359.
