Syn.: Cerasus avium (L.) Moench

This mainly Eurasiatic species is considered native in at least the W. and C. parts of Europe and adjacent Asiatic areas. It is intensely cultivated in many parts of the world and often naturalized there, for instance in Japan, N. Arnerica and New Zealand. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 227.
