1861 Cirsium acaule (L.) Scop.

This species occurs mainly in C. Europe. The outlying population in Spain is distinguished as subsp. gregarium (Boiss.) Wern. Moreover, the closely related C esculentum (Siev.) C. A. Mey. on the E. Russian and W. and C. Asiatic steppes and C rhizocephalum C. A. Mey. in Caucasus-Iran are mapped.
