Dryopteris dilatata
68 Dryopteris dilatata (Hoffm.) A. Gray
Syn.: D. austriaca auct. (non Jacq.)
This mainly European species extends into NE. Turkey and perhaps N. Iran. The present map of D. dilatata differs radically from Hultén's map no. 156 in Amphi-atl. 1958, as the last-mentioned map also includes D. expansa (no. 69), which was confined in 1961 as D. assimilis by S. Walker in Amer. J. Bot. 48, p. 607-614. In N. America the species is replaced by D. campyloptera (Kuntze) Clarkson (D. spinulosa [O. F. Muell.] Watt var. americana [Fisch.] Fem. in Manual 1950, p. 35). For the range of this species see M. Gibby in Can. J. Bot. 55/1977, p. 1419-1428.
