1595 Leonurus cardiaca L.

This species s. lat. here includes the closely related Asiatic taxa L. deminutus V. Krecz., L. glaucescens Bge, L. quinquelobatus Gilib., L. tataricus L. and L. turkestanicus V. Krecz. & Kupr. (Fl. SSSR 21). L. cardiaca probably originates from temperate parts of Asia. From there it has been introduced as a medicinal plant to most of Europe and to eastern and central N. America. It has escaped locally from gardens and become naturalized. However, it is less frequent nowadays. The population in E. Fennoscandia and eastwards is distinguished as subsp. villosus (Desf.) Hyl.
