Syn.: Scirpus mamillatus H. Lindh.

The map shows the distribution of this Eurasiatic species and the closely related N. American E. macrostachya Britt. (syn.: E. mamillata sensu Fem. & Brack. according to Fernald, Manual 1950, p. 257), both species referred to the E. palustris group (no. 396). In addition, a few separate taxa of E. mamillata sensu H. Lindh. are distinguished, for instance subsp. austriaca (Hayek) Strandh. (E. austriaca Hayek in Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 283) occurring in C. Norway and, probably disjunctly, in W., C. and E. Europe (see no. 399), and var. cyclocarpa Kitag. in E. Asia.
