Syn.: Orchis maculata L.

Within this non-calciphilous, polymorphic, Eurasiatic species several lower taxa are distinguished (in Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 336, five subspecies), among them subsp. islandica (A. & D. Löve) Soó on Iceland (circles on the map). The map includes also D. fuchsii (Druce) Soó (syn.: D. maculata subsp. fuchsii [Druce] Hyl.). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 110.
